The weakest link in your chain link fence is your lock
Thieves are not looking to cut through the chain-link fabric and framework, remove a gate or lay down your temporary security fence. Thieves consider the weakest and most exposed link of your temporary security fence: the lock. ‘
Most customers provide their own lock for their temporary security fence. It usually consists of a light chain and a common padlock. Both of which are quickly compromised with a $15 dollar pair of bolt cutters in seconds. After spending thousands and thousands of dollars to secure their site with a full temporary security fence, customers fail to consider the most important component which is the lock that brings everything together and secures any openings. Below are some suggestions for a better security lock.
- A 1/2″ chain. This chain uses links that are 1/2″ thick. No common pair of bolt cutters is going to cut through this chain. It can be purchased at your local farm store or hardware provider. It is a full dollar more but well worth it.
- A non-cut padlock. Master’s sells a disc lock that cannot easily be cut with a pair of bolt cutters. It is under $20.00.
- An American double drive gate lock. American Fence Company provides a large industrial gate latch that uses 2″ x 1/4″ tangs and a place for padlock. It sells for about $25.00 each.
- An American Ultra Latch. This is the ultimate in security. Non-removable, no-cut, and no-cut padlock. Available in both a single swing and double drive version. It also works well with 1 1/2″ and 2″ padlock hasps. It sells for about $95.00 each.
Don’t settle for just another chain and padlock. For a small investment, you will protect your much greater investment.
