Sculpting Future High Security Fence Requirements
Today, high security is more than just an extra tall fence. It’s sensing and alarming intruders who engage the perimeter. High security is a now ballistic restrictive screening system that fragments small arms fire. It is a vehicle restraint system designed to stop 10,000 lb vehicles traveling at 30+ MPH from getting within 1 meter of the system.
American Fence Company of Iowa provided a fully comprehensive high security fence installation that met and surpassed these extraordinary requirements at the MidAmerican Energy Cordova Substation. This project included over 4500’ of fence and a wide variety of crash rated and non-crash rated operators and gate installations.
AFC- Iowa staffed this project with over eight crews who worked six days a week toward an October 10, 2017 completion date. The Iowa branch beat this completion date and saved a large amount of estimated time. After finishing three months of work, installing almost $1 million of materials and creating a mile long 10’ high screen, AFC-Iowa only took twenty minutes to complete their punch list. Regardless of all this unbelievable efficiency and production, the branch is proudest of the fact that they didn’t have even one workplace accident.
In the words of Jeff Husmann, AFC-Iowa Branch Manager, “We really kicked ass on this job. The owner and the general contractor could not say enough good things about our foreman, our ability to man the project and our superintendent.”
